How Candidates Chosen For Scholarship Grants
Candidates applying for scholarship grants from the Foundation can either be male or female and have participated in at least one sport in their senior year. The candidates are rated based on a combination of categories, which include but not limited to academic performance (no GPA requirement – student working to potential) athletic participation and leadership skills, community service, financial need, letters of recommendation and an essay designed to measure the student’s motivation, ability, character and potential.
The choosing of the scholarship recipients at each school involves a review and appraisal of the candidate’s application with a team of school representatives and the Board Members of the Foundation. A secret vote is cast for three names for each scholarship. The ballots are sealed and sent to Dittrick & Associates, Certified Public Accountants, Burton, Ohio, for a tally of the ballots and determination of the winners.
Presently, the number and amounts of the scholarship grants being awarded and the high schools involved are as follows:
Berkshire High School-Burton, Ohio
Two (2) $2,000 grants are awarded annually
Newbury High School-Newbury, Ohio
Two (2) $2,000 grants are awarded annually
Cardinal High School-Middlefield, Ohio
One (1) $4,000 grant awarded annually
One (1) $2,000 grant awarded annually
One (1) $1,500 grant awarded annually
One (1) $4,000 Trade or Technical grant awarded annually*
All college scholarship grants are underwritten as four-year renewable scholarships.
*The Trade or Technical school grants are underwritten as two-year scholarships.
